In defence of 404

Following the announce on the Semantic Web list of the publication of RDF geographical codes by french INSEE, a lively debate with Dan Connolly about access vs description.

This blog is about hubjects, and is so far the only resource hosted under the domain hubjects.com. But you have possibly arrived here through the former address http://universimmedia.blogspot.com, or some avatar of "universimmedia" which was my first nickname on the Web. I created the domain name universimmedia.com back in '99, and owned it for a few years. It's now a placeholder for another of those silly useless portals. But every other universimmedia you can find will trace my Web identity and history if you are curious about it, since I've been using it as a user name in may places, Open Directory, Wikipedia, whatever. More about it can be found here in French, including some old pages (2000-2003).

Why such a weird name anyway? It tracks back to a project I had in the 90's, which was about science popularization, mixing observation with "real" instruments such as telescopes and spectroscopes, and "virtual" observation using on-line data from observatories. All the point of the "immediate" pun was to show that none of those two kinds of observation is more or less "immediate" than the other, they simply use different "media". Moreover, the focus was on the Sun, the center of our "immediate universe", which I had been steadily observing and explaining for years.
